Ink with oil glaze on paper. From "The Adventures of Captain Ward and 'Wiggy' Scarsdale" An image came into my mind and I thought I should try to get it onto paper, apart from that I can't say quite what is going on here so feel free to speculate. To me they are flying North in Winter in a plane which could be from a Rupert Annual. My father was a pilot in WW2 and still had his flying helmets when we were children. Of course we loved to play with them for all kinds of adventures. They were used as props for this illustration. In the border are fragments from the Nic Jones song "Little Pot Stove" which has a wonderfully atmospheric feelling for cold Winter climes.
