Great Northern City by Twilight

Drifting around the wet streets of Manchester and just along from the City Art Gallery I discovered St. Peter's Square. I knew it had to be painted and now it is a familiar friend. The tramways had just been re-installed and I learned that Mr. Rolls met with Mr. Royce at the Midland Hotel to discuss the possibility of producing a motor car. The title works for me on several levels. It asserts the obvious, it references the age of steam locomotives and calls me back to the Lakes with Arthur Ransome and a magnificent diving bird.
