Langstrath, Borrowdale

A westward turn at the confluence of waters beyond Stonethwaite in Borrowdale leads into the glacial valley of Langstrath. The richly wooded banks thin out and here is the last group of hardy birches before the sweeping open spaces come into view. Most flowing waters in Lakeland are clear, in Langstrath they are crystal clear and the deep pools are rightly famed among wild swimmers.
