Furness Abbey From The Abbot's Chapel
Oil on canvas. Over time, Barrow-in-Furness has endured comedic jibes of the "It's grim up North" variety. Some of us locals can laugh along, others are justifiably indignant, all of us know otherwise. A few of many plusses would include the ingenious Museum housed in the confines of an old Graving Dock, the vast Town Hall a Victorian Gothic masterpiece, miles of sandy beaches on Walney and sweeping vistas over Morecambe Bay. Within the Borough, hidden in a wooded valley, is our Knockout feature. We love to bring unsuspecting visitors from far and wide to this, just to help them close their astonished jaws.
