In the Caledonian Forest-Glen Affric

There are remnants of the forests which once covered much of Britain. I went up to Glen Affric in Scotland and arrived one freezing evening as the light was fading, the colours were drawing in to a lovely, almost monochrome cool hue which I tried to catch on my return to the studio. Most of the work was done with a painting knife which can provide a surprising delicacy as well as the gritty angularity so suited to these rock strata.
